About Jen

Burnout, Cancer, and the Art of Well-Being with Jen Fisher

A Curious Invitation

Several months ago, I received an invitation to speak at the aptly named Happiness Camp in Portugal—an event dedicated to well-being in the workplace. My first thought was, ‘Well, this is going to be…interesting.’ You see, I’ve spent much of my career focused on performance—measuring it, enhancing it, wrangling it into tidy dashboards. Well-being, while lovely in theory, often felt like a side dish to the main course.

Jen’s Influence

Enter Jen Fisher, whose story shifted my perspective. I met Jen at the Happiness Camp and was immediately captivated by her raw and powerful recounting of her battles with cancer and burnout. And while cancer is, of course, a battle no one wishes to face, it was her honesty about burnout that struck me most. As Jen shared, the insidious nature of burnout—the subtle denial, the creeping exhaustion—made it far harder for her to confront than even cancer itself. I sat there, barely breathing, absorbing the gravity of her words, wondering how I’d ever relegated well-being to a supporting role in the story of work.

A Lifeline of Generosity

If Jen’s talk left me in awe, our conversation sealed it. From the moment we met, it felt like we were picking up a thread of a much longer story. Jen’s passion for workplace well-being wasn’t just rhetoric—it was a mission. She knew the uphill climb I faced starting my own business and looked me in the eye with unwavering sincerity: “Whatever I can do to help you, just ask.” And she meant it. Since then, she’s connected me with incredible people, shared insights that shifted my perspective, and cheered me on with a wholehearted enthusiasm that makes you think, ‘Yes, I can absolutely do this—even when it feels impossible.’

The Heart of Episode 4

In Episode 4 of The Unbuzzed Podcast, Jen joins me to share her story—a journey through cancer, burnout, and the hard-earned lessons about resilience and well-being that followed. Her perspective on how burnout sneaks up on us, especially in environments that prize performance above all, is both sobering and inspiring.
