#Buzzwords (Ep 1)

Episode 1

In this episode, I’m thrilled to welcome my old friend Dr. Jake, with whom I had the pleasure of working at Netflix. With his psychologist's lens, he explores the impact of buzzwords and corporate jargon on mental health, as well as their effects on productivity.

About Dr. Jake

For the pilot episode, I am delighted to welcome my friend Dr. Jake, a clinical psychologist who profoundly shaped my perspective during our time at Netflix. HR is often seen as the principal’s office or the judge, but having Jake as part of the team transformed how I supported employees. With his insights into neuroscience and mental health, he helped reframe my approach to managing change and its profound impact on well-being.

Jake and I worked on “decompression sessions” during times of collective stress, creating space for colleagues to process the weight of the outside world. We explored how workplace decisions and uncertainty affect the mind, dispelling the illusion that mental health can ever be neatly separated from professional life. His presence bridged the emotional and the practical, proving the immense value of integrating mental health expertise into the workplace.

I firmly believe every organization should invest in such support. Join me as Jake and I unpack the impact of buzzwords on mental health and how to navigate a world that speaks much yet often says so little.
